Looks like someone decided that Avatar: The Last Airbender would make a good tabletop RPG game. Personally, I agree! Now all we have to do is wait…and wait…

Now you can make your own adventure in the Avatar-verse.

Magpie Games is responsible for developing this tabletop RPG version of Avatar: The Last Airbender to us. They haven’t actually started yet though. Magpie apparently plans to have the core rulebook ready by February 2022. To be fair though, they only just acquired the licensing for the series. It takes a while to come up with sensible rules for a RPG. Magpie Games also plans to have a pair of expansions ready later on, to expand the player experience. One takes place in Republic City (August 2022), and the other takes place in the Spirit World (February 2023). Thus, players will eventually have more places to roleplay in aside from the general Avatar world itself. And believe me, both locations are their own worlds.

Hmm, does that mean that they like shiny things too?

As for this tabletop RPG itself, players will use “playbooks” to create characters that will either play in Avatar: The Last Airbender and/or from Legend of Korra. These playbooks would serve as templates to help players convince compelling and/or likable characters to play as. Or you know, you can create a full-on Chaotic Evil character to mess around with. There are always those kinds of players, after all.

There’s always that one player.

Magpie Games was even helpful enough to give some examples of the kinds of adventures players can get up to in this Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG. Players can: “protect local merchants from the Triple Threat Triad in Republic City, travel through a spirit portal to rescue a child taken into the Spirit World, negotiate peace between feuding communities within the Earth Kingdom, or pursue mysteries (and villains) that arise throughout their adventures!”. Now add possible DnD-style dice mechanics into the mix, and you can get up to all sorts of wacky hijinks.

Conclusion

Magpie Games is proud to bring you the first ever Avatar: The Last Airbender tabletop RPG. Eventually. When they figure out the core rules sometime in February 2022. Until then, you can watch the whole series on Netflix, CBS All Access (soon to be Paramount+), or Amazon Prime if you subscribe to any of them. Trust me, it’d be well worth your time and money.
