Star Wars: Karyn McCarthy Is Suing Lucasfilm For Wrongful Termination From ‘The Acolyte’ Series

It seems like Lucasfilm has been in the news a lot over the last few days and it is not for the good kind. After announcing that Rogue Squadron (Patty Jenkins) and Kevin Feige’s Star Wars projects have been scrapped it looks like more bad news is heading its way to Lucasfilm. In an exclusive report from DEADLINE, they are reporting that Lucasfilm is getting hit with a wrongful termination lawsuit from Karyn McCarthy. McCarty was hired as a Producer for the upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte series on Disney+.

Karyn McCarthy Is Suing Lucasfilm

Ballers executive producer Karyn McCarthy has taken the Kathleen Kennedy-run Disney division to court over being pink-slipped from the Leslye Headland-created series last year after just a few weeks of work.

What makes this action all the more bitter and telling of streamer competition for top talent is that UTA-repped McCarthy was being actively courted by Apple at the same time to help run their eventual Colin Farrell-starring P.I. series Sugar, according to the March 7 filing (read it here) by Glaser Weil Fink Howard Avchen & Shapiro LLP. Deciding to throw her lot in with potential long-term commitment to Lucasfilm and The Acolyte in early April 2022, McCarthy found herself in an employment Death Star — and no cash to show for it at the sudden end, it seems.

As of now, we do not have a release date for the eight-episode series, The Acolyte. What we do know is that this series will be starring Amandla Stenberg and will take place during the end of the High Republic. This is a developing story so make sure to check out That Hashtag show for updates.
