It seems like Jenna Ortega is the most in-demand actress in Hollywood right now. She’s starring in Scream VI, she’s hosting SNL this weekend, and now it appears that she’s wanted by Warner Bros. for Beetlejuice 2. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Tim Burton and Michael Keaton would return for the sequel with Burton in the director’s chair. If a deal is made between the two sides, Ortega would play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the film.

The original film grossed $80 million on a $15 million budget. There’s been myriad iterations of a sequel to Beetlejuice over the years with plenty of writers coming and going. Ortega recently starred in Burton’s Wednesday series on Netflix. Ortega has said that she’s had dreams about Beetlejuice as a kid on multiple occasions.

Production is expected to start in late May or early June in London. A budget hasn’t been set yet, which is the cause of the production indecision. Both Ortega and Warner Bros. weren’t available for comment. Jenna Ortega started her career on Disney Channel and Jane the Virgin. She’s rose to superstardom with Wednesday, Scream, X, You, and now Scream VI.

UPDATE:

*According to sources, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are both set to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel.*

It’s unknown if other cast members like Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jordan, Catherine O’Hara, or Winona Ryder would reprise their roles from the original film.

As with all Hollywood deals, this one isn’t finalized until the studio announces it.
