Horror maestro Mike Flanagan could be making a Clayface film or series at the revamped DC Films.

Deadline reports that Flanagan has pitched a feature version of DC supervillain Clayface to DC. There’s no word on a greenlight yet, although the studio has not said no. There are currently no offers and no deals.

The word on the street is that Flanagan and his Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy had a pitch meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran. This is an issue because Clayface is apparently a huge part of Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2. It remains to be seen whether Clayface is a connection between the elseworld of The Batman and the upcoming DC’s Gods and Monsters – Chapter One saga.

Clayface was introduced at DC as part of Detective Comics #40 in 1940. The original Clayface was a successful actor who adopted the alias after he played the character in a horror movie. He’s part of Batman’s rogue’s gallery of villains. He’s made appearances across film, TV, comics, video games, and animation over the years.

He changed a bit of his backstory and character in the 1970s with a turn as a scientist with hormone irregularities that caused the clay body.

Mike Flanagan has been outspoken in the past about wanting a crack at the Clayface character, he’s pitched the character on Twitter saying he’d do it as a “standalone….horror/thriller/tragedy.”

He’s best known for his work at Netflix with the series The Haunting of HIll House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and the upcoming Fall of the House of Usher. He also directed the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. He’s also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower at Amazon.

We’ll keep you updated on this story as it develops.
